Burning a bit of midnight oil.

Go Fast Bits

Hopefully all the go fast bits work.

Engine: Timing Cover

Roughed out new timing cover to allow a 2nd oil pump for the turbo charger
to be driven off the exhaust camshaft October 2016.


Machining area to mount turbo oil pump to timing gear cover.


Machining the inside of the timing gear cover.


Outside profile done along with new location of the ignition timing gear.


Inside getting closer to finished.


Outside of new timing gear cover shaped and polished with original timing gear cover beside.


New timing gear cover with turbo oil lines fitted.

Engine preparation: The Cylinder

300mm diameter billet of aluminium for the new cylinders, the original
Triumph black cylinders to the left.


Marked out line of cylinder profile, October 2015.


Set up in power hack saw removing excess material.


Drilling head stud holes.


Testing fit for cylinder head stud and base flange holes.


Machining around the base of the cylinders.


Machining the final shape of the finned area.


Drilling pilot holes for the push rod tunnels and cylinders bores.


More checking of fit.


On the milling machine in the corner.


Starting to machine the fins.


Last cuts for the cylinder fins.


Fins completed and checking for looks, second cylinder blank beside for next Salt Flat bike.


Machining out the cylinders bores.


Cylinder bores completed.


Milling the base of the cylinders to allow them to protrude down into the crankcase.


Milling out the cutouts for base flange stud nuts.


Finishing boring of the push rod tunnels.


Machining the taper on the bottom of the cylinder bores.


Completed and ready for bores to be nickel silicon plated down in Ashburton November 2016.

Transporting the Bonneville Special

Clearing space for the Bonneville Special on the back of the Dodge.
